What Is Your Favorite Dutch Oven Dessert
Dutch ovens are famous for their desserts. Almost everyone has had a dessert that was cooked in a Dutch oven and almost everyone has good memories of that. While you are cooking your main dish, the Dutch oven is the perfect tool to use to get the delicious dessert ready. So.....What is Your Favorite Dutch Oven Dessert?
Here's some things that I'd love to hear about:

Cobblers are my favorite dessert to cook in dutch ovens. The dump recipes are simple and turn out good. I also like to mix fruits: blueberries & peaches, apples & cherries etc.

B.B., thanks for your favorite! I love cooking cobblers in my Dutch oven–you are right, they are simple to do and make delicious desserts.
Cobblers, especially berry cobblers, simple to make in my Dutch oven and the family enjoys them, especially, with home made vanilla ice cream.

I think everyones favorite is a dump cake. It is so easy to make that even cub scouts can do it (with some help). It is a great introduction to Dutch oven baking. It only takes 3 or more ingredients. You might want to use a paper Dutch Oven liner or aluminum foil to reduce the mess for easy clean up. Recipe, there are lots of choices on the Internet.
You may want to start off with to cans of your favorite pie filling (apple, peach, cherry, blueberry or whatever). They don’t have to be the same. Smooth it around the bottom of the oven. Then add a box of cake mix. I think most people use one of the cheep small boxed mixes. DON’T MIX THE CAKE MIX WITH THE PIE FILLING, just sprinkle it evenly on top of the filling. Little bits of butter cut and placed on top of the cake mix. That is all you need. Put coals on the bottom and top for a medium temperature and don’t mess with it until it is done. About 45 minutes or so.
It tastes great with a scoop of ice cream.
How many people does it serve? It depends on how many kids you have.8)
Apple cobbler
Cobblers or Dump cakes are the way to go in a Dutch Oven. Take it to a state park and watch the people come out of the wood work. They always want to know how to do it and want a taste. It doesn’t matter what flavor, they are all good. We cook Peach the most. We want to try Raspberry someday.

One of the easiest and best way to cook a desserts in a dutch oven, is to turn your oven into a convection oven.
Just take your dutch oven and add a Round cooling rack and a foil pan (I like the 3 quart foil casserole pan or foil pie pan)
Place the cooling rack in the bottom of the dutch oven. Then place the foil pan filled with your dessert in it on the rack.
Cook your dessert following the recipe.
The air gap helps to prevent burning your dessert. Also once your dessert is complete you can remove it from the dutch oven and add your next dessert into the same dutch oven without having to clean the it.
Here is a cake and brownies that I did this way.
The cake was a yellow cake mix and I added a can of cherries using the juice instead of water. The scouts loved both.
We were at a D.O.G. and I entered a frosted brownie in the dessert category. I used canned frosting and a mix. It was my first competition. I took third. My female friend was furious. She made a flourless chocolate cake that was very complicated and with expensive ingredients. She did not even place. People kept asking me for the recipe. I had to tell them the truth that is was a family SECRET. This was my favorite D.O dessert.

Some time ago I sent you the recipe for my then favorite peach bread pudding.
Lately my favorite is a pretty standard recipe for pineapple upside down cake with two small mods. I use a spice cake mix ibstead of yellow cake and I add in some sliced almonds and almond flavoring.
I use a parchment liner so the cake comes out intact.
Not only is it delicious but I get a lot of surprised looks and comments that such a pretty and flavorful cake can come from a Dutch Oven.

Scott-I would have to say it’s cobblers,all of them.Here’s another favorite,simple and allways hits the spot.Find a cake pan that fits in your Dutch oven also some thing to keep the pan up off the bottom of the oven trivet , washers,small rocks….1cup butter,2 cops brown sugar,1-16oz. can apple sauce,3 cups flour.2 tsp. baking soda,1/2 tsp. salt,2tsp. cinnamon. NEXT cream butter&sugar mix in applesauce.Combine flour, soda ,salt , and cinnamom. Pour in to oiled cake pan. Bake in “DO” for about 50-60 min. about 350 Dreges.Great for campping,or any time .Simple,easy and great with coffie or with any other drink.

Favorite dessert is dessert is Pine apple upside down cake! I’ve done it indoors and out and it comes out great every time!
1 Yellow cake mix- mix as directed
1 can Pineapple slices
1 jar maraschino cherries
6 oz. butter
6 oz. brown sugar
In 12 inch dutch oven melt butter and add sugar coating the bottom with the brown sugar
Place pineapple slices around bottom and place cherries in the holes in the pineapple slices
Add the cake mix over the pineapple slices and spread it out evenly.
Have 23 charcoal briquetts ready in a chimney and when coals are white place 8 on the bottom and the rest on top
Cook about 45 minutes and check by sticking a toothpick in the middle and it’s done when it comes out clean.
Apple dumpling rolls are my family’s favorite dutch oven dessert. They are basically a shredded apple filled cinnamon roll cooked in a cinnamon sauce.
I like the cobblers best. Here is one that I like. It is good and easy. From an old cookbook of from my mom’s house.
Peach Cobbler
2 C Fresh sliced peaches (2 Cans)
2 C Sugar
6 T Margarine
¼ t Salt
1 t Baking Powder
¾ C Flour
¾ C Milk
Melt margarine in a 2-quart casserole. In a bowl, mix 1 C sugar, salt, baking powder and flour.. If canned or pre-sweetened fruit is used, omit the cup of sugar that fruit stands in. Mix peaches and 1 C sugar together and let stand while making batter. Beat in milk until lumps are gone. Pour batter on melted margarine. Do not stir. Spoon peaches over top of batter. Again, do not stir. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until golden brown. Almost any canned, frozen or fresh fruit may be used. Also, be sure to drain the juice. Serves 6.
San Angelo Junior League Cookbook
I do add a little of the liquid back, maybe 1/4 can. Just play with it and do it to the consistency that you like. I would follow the above recipe first, and take it from there. Also, add some cinnamon is a good touch.
